The Chicago Cubs pitcher tested a new batting helmet (Model S-100) developed by Rawlings, which is designed to withstand the impact of pitches at speeds of up to 100 mph. Dempster wore it Saturday in the Cubs' 11-4 win over the New York Mets. Dempster admitted the big helmet it did make him a little faster because it forced him to lean forward, but "I felt like a Smurf", he said.
